Assassins
Written by John Weidman and with Lyrics and Music by Stephen Sondheim, “Assassins” is a darkly comedic, historical “revusical” that explores the motives of the nine men and women who assassinated or attempted to assassinate United States presidents. Operating outside traditional time and space, these historical figures meet in a fairground shooting gallery, interacting, inspiring one another, and lamenting their twisted pursuit of the American Dream. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, Assassins spans several musical styles and many decades in a dizzying series of musical and theatrical inventions that culminate in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
